Ohh I loved these Saturnalia facts! I also kind of want to flee for the countryside/into the woods come the holiday season. There’s also a certain odd comfort to know, even back in Roman times, you could write a poem and then find it in “collections of the absolute worst poetry.” Re: the first half, I also often feel this way. Idk if for this kind of thing that is comforting to hear or not, but man, I do feel that. Thanks for sharing this!

catullus was SO good at complaining about other people's writing efforts. also, complaining about other people in general. and wrt the second half: i am sorry that you often feel similarly but it is indeed a comfort in some way!! we're all in this thing together <3
