okay 1. hell yes Louise Glück my beloved! 2. you assume incorrectly, I would gleefully read about roman dry cleaning practices (even if piss was involved) since I am a freak who loves reading about old time cleaning practices and 3. man I gotta read the Emily Wilson Iliad because that introduction has me lying flat on my ass. oof. this was so much fun to read!!

I CANNOT RECOMMEND THE EMILY WILSON ILIAD ENOUGH.... i can't speak to the translation itself because i never learned greek, except to say it's the best and smoothest translation out of those i've read. her footnotes are excellent and occasionally hilarious!

my hot take is i think the aeneid is better in latin... without the translation puzzle, it's not as throat-grabbing to me. but the themes of the iliad are indeed eternal
